Prior to removing materials or performing destructive evaluation, we duplicate the leak by performing a “Water test”.
This is the only sure way to identify the real source of the problem, and while taking additional time and man hours, it has proven to be the most accurate means of determining the source for water intrusion. Many contractors simply take some measurements, then start cutting into the roof and removing existing roof material, often realizing that the source of the water is actually a location several feet in another direction
